thanks- You offered some ways I had not thought of before to quiet students and get their attention.I do count down, but am going to incorporate the commentary as well and love the idea of changing up routine/ visual as they walk through the door.

I love these simple ideas! I also have used some of them in my classroom. I also have used with success, a variation of the countdown, in which I state the direction and do an auctioneer’s speech, like “I see two students getting their desks in order, can I get 4, 4 good, can I get 6, 6?” I did get this idea from a webinar with Dr. Mac, but it works!!

Great easy ways to control noise levels in a class. Are these explained to the class at the beginning of the year E.G. Each week I will be choosing 2 students to assist me to control the noise, their role will be susshers. Or do you just introduce it at what ever stage you feel is necessary? Thanks, Liz

Great ideas, especially the unexpected! I’ve tried it a couple of times and it worked like charm. I have to work a little bit harder on establishing routines, though. Thanks :)

I subscribed to your free mini-course. I haven’t gottena round to reading the course, but took the time to watch this video. This is great. I’ve been struggling with my 5 year old classroom, specially in the noise area, and am trying to look for resources to help me. I did make an instument, but it sounds to low it doesn’t work that well. I’ll be giving your other options a go. Thanks!

It is good to receive validation for the things I have been doing. In the quest to always be at the cutting edge of developments to benefit and empower our kids, the old methods that work . . . well because they work … are marginalised.
Hearing another voice outlining those old embedded habits gives me peer pressure to apply back to management when I have tough kids and my overall grip on my strategies is questioned.
